New Foundations: Tried & Tested

So it seems I've been getting really into my foundations recently. They've always been one of my favourite products and I love how much variety we have these days both in the department stores and on the high street. I've been testing a few quite different foundations recently and I think it's time to tell you what I thought...

Let's start out with what I look for in a foundation. I personally like a very natural light/medium coverage that is long lasting on my combination skin and doesn't feel heavy. That last point is very important as I can not stand heavy foundations. I live in Australia and it is often very hot and humid and the feeling of my face literally melting off is awful. I should also mention that I'm an NC15 in MAC foundations and all these match me in case you're struggling to find a colour match.

Going from left to right we have Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage, Bourjois Healthy Mix, Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous, Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude, YSL Touche Eclat and Nars Sheer Glow.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation (Fair Beige)
Coverage: 5. This covers absolutely anything, it's up there with Laura Mercier Silk Creme fighting for the most heavy duty foundation in my stash.
Longevity: 4.5. This stays quite well on my normal and dry patches but slides off where I get oily.
Packaging: 3.5. Personal preference is foundations with pumps but I'll let this one slide as it's probably too thick to go through a pump.
Texture: 3. It blends well but is too heavy for my liking.
My Overall Rating: 3. It's a nice foundation but doesn't really work for me personally. However, if you like Laura Mercier Silk Creme then you'll love this!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (51)
Coverage: 3.5. Perfect for everyday. Light but offers enough coverage that only minimal concealer is needed.
Longevity: 4. Lasts most of the day for me when not powdered. Tends to separate in my T-Zone but easily fixed with mattifying powder.
Packaging: 5. Perfect! The pump dispenses the perfect amount of product every time.
Texture: 5. This feels very moisurising and light on the skin.
My Overall Rating: 5

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation (810)
Coverage: 4. This covers very well, especially redness and slight hyper pigmentation.
Longevity: 5. This looks perfect from the moment I put it on at 7AM until I wash my face at 9PM.
Packaging: 4. The pump disperses a nice amount of product but the lid has the tendency to fall off when travelling.
Texture: 3. This foundation is quite heavy and cakes if applied to dry skin. It's nice for a night out but not during the day.
My Overall Rating: 4

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation (Ivory)
Coverage: 3. It's such a beautiful natural coverage that is perfect for everyday wear.
Longevity: 4. This foundations lasts all day on me but goes a little patchy around the tip of my nose.
Packaging: 5. Couldn't ask for better packaging.
Texture: 3. This foundation dries out my skin a little and I can only apply using a sponge. Using my fingers made me look sweaty. Not glowy, sweaty like I'd just run a marathon.
My Overall Rating: 4.5

YSL Touche Eclat (B20)
Coverage: 1. This is a lovely foundation that lets your natural skin show and means you can put small amounts of concealer in targeted areas rather than a full coverage foundation all over your face.
Longevity: 3. It doesn't last all that well on me without a primer.
Packaging: 4. YSL normally ticks all the boxes packaging wise, it's luxe and understated but I'll be nit picky with this and say that the way the lid is designed means that it smears excess foundation all over the base of the pump.
Texture: 4.5. I find this to be a little drying on my skin but other than that the texture is lovely.
My Overall Rating: 3.5

Nars Sheer Glow (Monte Blanc)
Coverage: 4. Not quite as heavy duty as Tarte's offering but still pigmented enough to cover all blemishes.
Longevity: 5. This lasts all day on my skin and I'll always reach for it if I need my makeup to stay flawless.
Packaging: 2. It doesn't come with a pump, you have to buy it separately and when you do, the lid no longer fits.
Texture: 5. It's covering without being heavy and blends seamlessly into the skin. It's a little heavy for every day but you can make it work by using less product during application.
My Overall Rating: 5
